Home Based Program

What is the Home Based Program?
Yarran offers early intervention through home visits to families with babies and very young children with developmental delays or disabilities. Visits are fortnightly and last for about one hour each time. Home visits may be made to older children under circumstances.

Who are the staff on the program?
A trained teacher with considerable experience in both early childhood education and special education visits the families.

How does the program help?
The program helps by providing support to the family and the child. The child is encouraged to develop skills and abilities that are those expected of a child of this age. Families are given ideas to help achieve these goals and are given support in other ways as needed.

What happens?
The teacher and parent work together as partners. At each visit the teacher and parent play with the child using a variety of toys and activities. Each child has an Individual Educational Plan, which describes the goals of that child's program. The Plan builds on the child's present strengths and helps to meet their existing needs. The teacher and parent discuss ways in which the needs of the family as well as the child can be met.
